Arts for All invites all children to participate in the “Parrots and Pirates” project during the 2009 Arts for All Festival. Funded in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, this is a free two-day celebration of interactive fine arts activities for young children.

“Parrots and Pirates” will be held in Shepler Park from 11 o’clock a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, and 12 noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday May 10, 2009. Using “hands-on” art forms, teachers will assist the children in making:

  • Pirate Ship – 3-D Paper Folding
  • Parrots – Using recycled CD’s
  • Pirate Hats – Folding Newspapers into Hat & Decorating
  • Jungle Bags – Decorate Paper Bags with Stamping & Painting
  • Mother’s Day Cards – Original Design for Mom
  • Paint Marbling – Create Seascape by Rolling Marbles across the Paper
  • Hidden Parrot – Colorful Flowers hide a Clever Parrot.

Children will have a finished product to take home when they are finished. The Festival Committee wishes to provide fun and thought provoking fine arts experiences for children in ways that teach, and are also entertaining for their age.

With the assistance of the Oklahoma Arts Council, the “Parrots and Pirates” project at the Arts for All Festival in Lawton is one of a kind in southwest Oklahoma!
